FAQ
Frequently Asked Questions
Do you do embroidery and printing in-house?
Yes. VTR Uniforms completes decoration in-house in Guelph, including embroidery, screen printing, heat transfers, and laser engraving. Keeping decoration under one roof helps with quality control, timelines, and repeat orders.
What industries do you serve?
We outfit industrial, construction, landscape, healthcare, hospitality, sports, education, government, and custom apparel programs. If your team needs approved workwear, branded apparel, or recurring uniform orders, we can help build the right product mix.
Can you outfit an entire team or company?
Yes. VTR Uniforms works with teams, companies, departments, and organizations that need consistent apparel across multiple roles or locations. We can also build online uniform portals so managers or employees can reorder approved products without starting from scratch.
What are your minimum order quantities?
Minimums depend on the product, decoration method, artwork, and supplier requirements. Some methods are better for smaller runs, while screen printing is usually most cost-effective at higher quantities. Contact us with the product and artwork details and we will recommend the best option.
Do you carry stock or is everything custom?
VTR Uniforms offers a wide range of blank and decorated products, and many orders are built around approved products selected for your team. Visit the showroom to see sample garments, fabrics, decoration options, and product ideas before placing an order.
How long does a typical order take?
Turnaround depends on product availability, proof approval, quantity, and decoration method. Many decorated orders are completed in 5 to 10 business days, and rush options may be available depending on the job.
Can I visit your store in person?
Yes. You can visit the VTR Uniforms showroom at 1 Taggart St in Guelph during business hours, Monday to Friday from 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM. The showroom is useful for comparing product samples, sizing, decoration options, and ordering approaches.
What decoration methods do you offer?
VTR Uniforms offers in-house embroidery, screen printing, heat transfers, laser engraving, and related art setup services. The best method depends on your artwork, garment type, quantity, budget, and how the apparel will be used.
What file format do you need for my logo?
Vector files (.AI, .EPS, .PDF) are best. High-resolution PNGs (300 dpi at full print size) also work. We can recreate or clean up lower-quality art for a small art fee.
Will I see a proof before you decorate?
Yes - nothing goes into production until you approve a digital proof of placement, size, and colours.
Are there setup or digitizing fees?
Screen printing has a one-time screen setup fee per colour. Embroidery has a one-time digitizing fee to convert your logo into a stitch file. Embroidery files are reusable for future reorders. Heat transfers typically have no setup fee.
Do you keep my logo on file for reorders?
Yes. Once your digital images and embroidery file are set up, reorders are faster and skip repeat setup charges.
Is there a minimum for screen printing?
Screen printing is most cost-effective at higher quantities since each colour requires its own screen. We will quote small runs but may recommend heat transfers instead.
How many colours can you print?
Multiple colours are possible. Each adds a screen and affects pricing. Simpler, fewer-colour designs print most economically.
Can you print on dark garments?
Yes. Dark shirts need a white underbase, which adds a print step but gives bright, opaque colours.
How durable are screen prints?
Very. Properly cured prints stay soft and last the life of the garment with normal care.
Does stitch count affect price?
Yes. Larger or denser designs have higher stitch counts, which increases cost. Hats, polos, jackets, and bags all embroider well.
Can you match my exact brand colours?
We match to the closest available thread colours and confirm on your proof.
When are heat transfers the best choice?
For low quantities, photographic images, gradients, or designs with many colours where screen printing is not practical.
Are transfers durable?
Yes, when applied correctly and cared for properly.
What can you laser engrave?
Laser engraving is ideal for items like leather patches, drinkware, and certain hard goods, giving a clean, permanent, premium finish without ink.
Can I mix garment styles, colours, and sizes in one order?
Yes, as long as the decoration stays the same. Changing the design or print colours may affect setup and pricing.
Can you decorate more than one location?
Yes - front, back, sleeve, and more. Each additional print or stitch location adds to the price.
How should I care for decorated apparel?
Wash cold, inside out, tumble dry low or hang dry, and avoid ironing directly over decoration.
What decoration method is best for my order?
It depends on your artwork, quantity, garment type, and deadline. Our team will help you choose the right method at no extra charge.
Do you decorate garments we provide?
In some cases, yes. Contact us with the garment details and artwork so we can confirm whether it is something we can accommodate.
How long does decoration take?
Turnaround varies by method and quantity. Many orders are completed in 5 to 10 business days. Rush options may be available depending on the job.
Can you help with logo design or artwork?
Yes. Our art and digital services team can help with logo creation, vector file setup, artwork cleanup, and print-ready file preparation.
Is there a setup fee for the online portal?
We work with each client individually to set up a portal that fits their needs. Contact us to discuss your requirements and we will find the right solution for your business.
Can we use our own branding on the portal?
Yes. Your custom portal can feature your company logo, colours, approved products, and ordering rules so employees have a consistent branded experience.
How do manager credit limits work?
Managers can set a specific dollar amount each employee is permitted to spend per order or per year. Employees see only the products they are allowed to order and cannot exceed the set limit.
Who manages inventory and fulfillment?
VTR Uniforms can manage inventory, decoration, and delivery. You do not need to stock uniforms, manage sizing, or coordinate with multiple suppliers.
What products can be included in our portal?
Any product we carry can be added to your portal, from hi-vis safety gear to office shirts, hats, jackets, scrubs, hospitality apparel, and branded accessories.
Can we add new products or update the portal later?
Yes. Your portal can be updated to add products, adjust pricing, refresh branding, or change ordering rules as your business evolves.
